Surgical Procedures

Our mission is to improve people's lives by aesthetically enhancing their appearance. Our meticulous and artistic approach is based on years of experience. The first and foremost goal is to achieve a result that appears as natural as possible. It is far better for prospective patients to remain as they are than to undergo surgical procedures that leave them with an unnatural or "operated on" appearance. The best cosmetic surgery does not draw attention to itself and does not say to the observer "something is not right here."

When referring patients to us, one colleague in our community often tells patients, "You pay as much for what he doesn’t do as for what he does do." This succinctly captures the philosophy of Drs. Jacob and Moulthrop.

Upper and Lower Blepharoplasty/Eyelid Surgery

Blepharoplasty is the surgical correction of defects or deformities of the upper and lower eyelids. Of all the cosmetic facial plastic surgical procedures that one may elect to have, eyelid surgery may have the most effective rejuvenating results. The eyes are difficult to hide as “eye contact” is integral to communication. Having tired, heavy, or angry eyes prompts many patients to consider facial plastic surgery. As discussed below when evaluating the upper eyelid it is important to assess the contribution of heaviness from the brow. You can trust us to appropriately assess if both brow and eyelid surgery or a single procedure will give you the refreshed upper lid appearance you desire. Determining the cause of lower eyelid “bags” can be complex. Factors such as allergies, diet, sleep, and hormones can play a role in the lower lid appearance. We can determine if the fullness of the lower eyelid is indeed due to fat that surrounds the eye herniating forward, loss of support from tissue in the cheek, excess skin or a combination of all of these. In certain cases it is important to not only to remove fat that is creating the bags but also to reposition it to improve lower lid contour.

Rhytidectomy/Facelift/Necklift

The facelift addresses the excess skin of the neck/turkey neck, neck fullness, jowling, poor jawline definition and deflated midface/cheek area. The biggest concern voiced by patients is their fear of looking pulled or unnatural. Our methods result in a very natural restoration of your youthful features. Often times, we may also recommend concurrent procedures such as brow lift, blepharoplasty, or laser skin resurfacing if they complement each other. Comprehensive facial rejuvenation demands that a trained, critical eye evaluates all components of the face to create a harmonious, natural look.

Brow Lift or Forehead Lift

Many patients complain of having tired, heavy, or angry eyes. They frequently attribute this to the eyelids alone, when, in fact, the depressed brow plays a significant role. The brow is frequently overlooked by both surgeons and patients when evaluating the upper one-third of the face. Sometimes, the drooping eyebrow is the sole contributor to a heavy upper lid. You can trust us to appropriately assess if both brow and eyelid surgery or a single procedure will give you the refreshed upper lid appearance you desire.

Rhinoplasty

A rhinoplasty or “nose job” is surgical correction of nasal tip and dorsal irregularities, asymmetries, and cosmetic problems. The days of a universal, overly rotated ski-slope nose are over. Rhinoplasty is an art form where the surgeon must maintain the function of the nose while making it more attractive, symmetric, and balanced with other facial features. A nose should enhance not detract from your overall appearance.

Otoplasty

Otoplasty is a surgical procedure to change the size, shape or position of the ears. Correction of either inherited or traumatic ear deformities such as prominence, malformation, and malposition can be achieved using various surgical techniques. We employ these techniques to provide symmetry and facial balance to achieve a natural look.

Chin Implants (Mentoplasty)

Mentoplasty is a surgical procedure employed to augment the chin using implants or injectable fillers. A small or recessed chin can dramatically change the overall balance of the face. It can make a nose seem larger, the profile appear “weak” or convex, or a neck line rounded and short. Even an untrained eye will unconsciously focus on the lack of a chin because it disturbs overall facial harmony.

Mohs Reconstruction

Mohs Reconstruction is a surgical procedure employed to repair facial defects that result from the removal of skin cancers. This can involve simple closure of the wound or, in more complicated cases, may require the transfer of adjacent tissue. Our goal is to minimize any change and restore your appearance using techniques that maintain the same aesthetic approach that we use for our cosmetic patients.

Scar Revision

Scar Revision is a surgical or non-surgical procedure employed to improve or reduce the appearance of scars caused by an injury, wound, poor healing, or previous surgery. Dr. Moulthrop and Dr. Jacob can assess facial scars and develop a treatment plan to improve appearance. Most often it is best to allow a scar to mature fully before consideration of a revision surgery and this can take up eight to twelve months. After approximately six weeks scars should be tending to remodel resulting in less fullness, tightness, and redness. Throughout the healing process application of topical scar creams, massage, and sun protection are important. We can also assess if the scar is tending to increase in size or width (hypetrophic scars) or even grow beyond the bounds of the original injury (keloid). In these instances, patients may benefit from injections of steroids or applications of silicone sheets to scars that appear to be “over healing”. Other non-surgical methods that we employ involve laser treatments that especially aid in improving scar color to allow them to better blend with the facial skin. When considering revision surgery it is important to remember that you are always trading an old scar for a new scar. The techniques we employ plan for the new scars to be less apparent by decreasing size, orientating in natural creases, and decreasing skin color changes.

Neck Liposuction

Fullness under the chin and in the neck can result from fat under the skin becoming more pronounced or protruding from weakened muscles. Neck liposuction can be effective in sculpting the neck and jawline to restore a more youthful appearance and decrease the double chin.
