Neuromodulators
We offer nonsurgical modalities for facial rejuvenation. The most common cosmetic intervention is the use of neuromodulators such as Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin to soften expression wrinkles of the face. The added benefit of this intervention is that when these substances are injected, we prevent the fine lines of the face from progressing to deeper creases. These products work by blocking the signals to the muscles leaving them relaxed, preventing them from contracting and causing lines in the face. Generally, both of these products work for a period of about four months and most of our patients tend to see us for injection about two to three times per year. Dr. Moulthrop and Dr. Jacob are both dually trained in Head & Neck Surgery and Facial Plastic Surgery, thus specializing in facial anatomy and employ injection techniques that are safe, effective, and customized to each patient to give a refreshed, natural result. They are also comfortable using these injections in certain patients to achieve browlifting, frown correction, and lip rejuvenation.

Fillers
As part of the aging process not only does the face sag but it also deflates. Injectable fillers such as Juvederm, Restylane, Vollure, Voluma are used to correct volume loss in the face. They tend to be more effective in restoring shape to the face and softening transition zones such than removing individual lines. Each filler has its own benefits, durationlimitations. Often the limitation of what can be corrected by fillers has more to do with the anatomy of the area of the face where they are injected than with the fillers themselves. Dr. Moulthrop and Dr. Jacob can fashion an injection strategy for each patient to restore volume loss due to aging or add volume to the face to create more balance. It is important to distinguish between facial aging that is due to deflation versus sagging. Patients that have facial volume restored can appear “lifted” when injected effectively. The key to volume addition is to restore volume that has been lost with aging, care taken to not overcorrect which would change one’s natural appearance. Some of the more common areas of the face that require volume addition include the cheeks/lower eyelids, laugh lines, marionette folds, and lips. Fillers are injected in office safely, comfortably, and often with little downtime. The goal is to achieve a natural, refreshed, and balanced result.

In Summary Neuromodulators:
- Botox and Dysport usually last approximately four months
- relaxes muscles by blocking the signal from the nerve
- softens the expression lines that we see as well as prevents them from deepening, preventing an aged look.
- can be used in conjunction with fillers to prolong the duration of their effect

- often the limitations of what can be achieved with fillers is due to the anatomy of the area of the face where they are corrected
- typically, are a low risk procedure with little downtime-most common would be swelling/bruising
